Coming To A Close…

I would like to think I’m a pretty patient person, but waiting to hear if you are approved to close on a house is HORRIBLE! We weren’t told until the Friday before we had closing. We were scheduled to close on Thursday January 21, 2016. Most people said it would be pretty good if we could close in 30 days from when we put in our offer, apparently that doesn’t always happen that smooth. We wanted to be out of the townhome prior to January 31st so we didn’t have to pay rent for February and then we wouldn’t have to start mortgage payments until March 1st. The week before closing is when all my co-workers and friends decided to tell me all the horror stories of their house experiences. NOT COOL and it only made me more anxious. I was relieved when my signature was on the last page.

We closed on Thursday January 21, 2016 and had all the papers signed by 10:00am that morning. We have great families and friends. One of my sisters came Thursday with the big suburban, you don’t know how much they hold until you pack them full. She also helped me clean the kitchen so everything was all clean and ready for my mom to put all the kitchen stuff away. We made 4 trips total on Thursday. We brought Arie and his stuff that night to let him be there without the distraction of everyone else.

The next two days were crazy busy, we were up by 5:30am every morning, packing and moving boxes. Carl’s parents came on Friday morning with both vehicles! We were able to pack a lot in both vehicles. My friend came to help move all the precious wine making things-very important plus we packed our vehicle. We got a lot moved that day, my friend was on her game and started unpacking kitchen boxes to get stuff in the cupboards-thank goodness, I would have been lost! lol My parents showed up later with lots of yummy food for all of us to have lunch! Which was nice to have our parents there. My mom started really helping to unpack the kitchen was beyond helpful and my Pa and Carl were looking at what they were going to need from Menards. Then we went back to the townhome and finished getting everything ready for Saturday for the movers. I was really sad on Friday night because we were leaving a place where we had lots of memories, we loved our neighbors and our pond.

On Saturday morning, the movers were coming to move all of our big stuff/furniture. It was really nice of my parents to come Saturday morning as well! The movers rocked, they had all of our stuff packed up and moved to the other house and unpacked in just under 4 hours, so our quote and final price was much cheaper! 🙂 We did more unpacking, two of my other sisters showed up to help. One helped set up the beds and make them, the other was awesome and cleaned all of our bathrooms. My brother showed up later and helped Carl with wiring a few things for the computer for his work.

We are beyond blessed and thankful for all the help from our families and friends. Now to get settled!

Mama if that’s movin up, then I’m movin out- Billy Joel

The last month, was nothing short of quiet; that is a LARGE reason for my absence. Carl and I had been looking at houses on and off for the last year, which felt like forever. We found a house that fit us so we put an offer in in mid December. The house had been on the market for a few months and it’s winter here. So the odds were in our favor.

This house was exactly what we were looking for: 4bd 3ba, just over 2,000 sq ft, a fenced yard, open layout and close to work

Friends with kids kept saying  a house with 3bds on one floor is a big deal for having kids. We had a hard time finding a master bedroom that had a master suite was hard to come by. We wish the yard was a tad bigger with acreage; however, we have one of the bigger lots. It is a quiet neighborhood, which we like, close to highways and literally EVERYTHING! We can get to any store or place within 10 mins or less. That is a big change because in our last home we were at least 20 mins from the nearest highway. We are much closer to family, friends and my work, which is a huge plus.

Arie, was very unsure of what was going on with all the packing and moving of boxes. He definitely knew something was up.

Here are a few pictures.

We literally moved up, north of the metro and moved out; as Billy Joel said it best!

Stayed Tuned for many house photos!

A Few Things I Love

Here are a few photos of things I love! 🙂

I saw the two sayings and they are quite true. The photos of Arie are just sweet. I follow a few of the musicians websites so I know when we can catch a concert. So I follow Griffin House a musician Carl introduced me too and that we have grown to really enjoy, we saw him live a few years back. He was having a “in home” live concert that we were able to stream, it was so cool! I think more musicians need to do this.

Gobble Gobble Until You Wobble…

Happy Thanksgiving 2015! Man, where has the year gone already. I am sure many of you are happy the year has gone by quick and then there are those who are sad that it has flown by. It was another great dinner at my parents house; lots of laughs, good food and as always ate way to much.

Here are some fun photos from the day!

We had a fun time at home. On Friday, as we head back home we always stop to hang out with Carl’s parents. His dad- Papa M. had to work this time but we made sure to pay him a visit, Arie too! I dropped our rings off so they could be cleaned up, checked out and we wanted to get Carl’s buffed. When we got them back, they looked brand new, thanks Papa M.!!! We had a wonderful lunch with Carl’s mom and got to meet one of her jam session members, which was nice. We left his parents with an apple pie, some mulled wine, amish pocket pies and farm fresh eggs! It almost felt like Christmas!

Then home james as my Pa says.

Happy Thanksgiving- but remember to be thankful every day not just REALLY thankful one day out of the year!

The Break-Up

The other week, Carl sent me a series of photos of Arie (the last 4 photos) that had me laughing so hard. These photos told a story. So here is the story of Arie and Steve.

Arie and Steve are through! Arie doesn’t seem to be affected by the break-up, he has gone back to his normal routine! 🙂 LOL

Going to the Chapel…

Last weekend my best friend got married-Yay!

On Friday, we drove to my sisters with Arie to stay there because it was close to the reception area. Carl and I got to have a fun Friday afternoon date and ate at Washington Square. Here are some photos from the day, it was a busy long day. Carl set up the reception tables for her because there were minimal people to help that were not in the wedding in the timeframe we had, her mom and a groomsman helped him. Thanks so much Carl for what you did! I didn’t get a picture of them-oops, but they looked good. 🙂

So the last picture has a story-some of the groomsman, once they had enough liquid courage started calling me the “sexy doctor”. Then they started asking me random questions and saying I was cute. Ok, thank you! Then one of them asked if they could call me Mindy. Then I got it Mindy Kaling, I said sure you will probably never see me again and won’t remember it the next morning because you’re drunk. So I had to do a side by side photo. I guess if I have to be called anyone or look like anyone, she’s a good one to look like! 🙂

Congrats and best wishes to my friend! Thanks for throwing a great party! 😉

Cheers!

Wine in the Bluffs

Last weekend we spent the day in the bluffs with a glass of wine in our hand! Carl’s parents came to visit so I planned a fun day for us, it was an early start to my mother-in-laws 60th birthday.

We started in Red Wing at Falconer Vineyards where we did a wine tasting and sat outside and drank a bottle of the one we liked the most. It was a beautiful Saturday.

IMG_0839 What a beautiful day!

IMG_0841Barely a cloud in the sky.

IMG_0843 All gone, time to head to the next place.

Then we made our way across the Mississippi River and went to Vino in the Valley. I had never been there before and it was so cool. It was literally in the middle of nowhere. We got there about 2pm and sat on the outdoor patio until food started at 3pm. We went to stand in front of the hostess stand at like 2:45pm because it was starting to get pack and people were standing in line. Once it hit 3pm it busy with lots of people. The food was great, we had pizza.

There is no photoshop on those photos, it was that blue sky and white fluffy clouds.

IMG_0850  We had a lot of fun with Carl’s parents.

That night when we got home, I made a yummy appetizer that my sisters told me make. So I made roasted tomatoes, with parmesan crisps on crackers. It turned out pretty good.

Tomatoes just have olive oil, salt and pepper

IMG_0854

IMG_0855  The finished product was delicious!

I had to add these photos, Arie and I ran to the farmers market to get the tomatoes and flowers.

Then home, I’m going to sleep now. lol

It’s the Little Things…

If we don’t take time to slow down, we let the little things pass us by. Lately I have felt we are go go go… Between work, house hunting and weekends being full, I try to remind myself to slow down to remember and appreciate the little things.

Here are a few photos to show the “It’s the Little Things!”

#1 Is a book I started when Carl and I first started dating to keep track of the restaurants we went to for our birthdays or anniversaries as we always wanted to try a new one. Now it is our Date/Outing book and it goes back to 2009. I am glad I started this and kept it up.

#2 I took this photo when we were sitting on the rocks by Lake Superior over our anniversary weekend. Feeling anchored and relying on God to keep me balanced.

#3 A clearer picture of my anniversary ring, per my mom.

#4 The post office was good to me this week. I got a pleasant surprise of Mindy Kaling’s book. I almost ordered it not realizing that I pre-ordered it a while back! Good thing I didn’t. Then I got my Pioneer Woman bowls that I ordered online from Walmart! I love them!

#5/#6 Photos I saw on Instagram that I liked. I love the photo of Duluth, it captures it all of it’s greatness. The other photo reminds me of all my close friends.

#7 I can’t have a post without Mr. Arie! What a sweet boy, he was taking my side of the bed from the other night.

Happy Sunday!

Trying for balance…

The last couple of weeks have been kind of “blah”. I have had two flare ups with my sjogren’s. (click the link to learn what Sjogren’s is) I went on prednisone twice for 5 days. I don’t think I am out of the woods yet, some of the symptoms are still lingering. I have felt a little stressed and overwhelmed because we have started the home buying process. We met with our loan officer and real estate agent last Thursday to figure out what loan we will go with, then on Friday we met with Carl’s financial advisor to make sure we are were we need to be with savings for short and long term.

When I go into a flare up, I get bad chest pains and a horrible dry sore throat. This time I knew it was bad because I broke out in a rash. I see my specialist in two weeks, not soon enough. I do my best to deal with the pain and not take any medicine and find other techniques to deal. I had a nervous break down with all the health and house stuff, we looked at 5 houses with our realtor on Saturday.

A few months back, I had purchased Young Living essential oil roll ons for stress, sleep and pain relief. I am so glad I did that, they have been good to have. They have helped me with balance, stress, pain and sleep.

I know it sounds weird, but having a pet helps too. Arie is a great companion. He got multiple car rides this weekend so we had one happy dog.

Here are some funny photos of Arie

I don’t think this bed is big enough for the three of us.

IMG_0815 How close can I get to Papa before he knows I am ready to get up.

IMG_0818 Will someone please help me get the ball?!

IMG_0809We made s’mores last night over the grill! Yum!

It was a good relaxing weekend!
